My ADHD Brain has difficulty with these:
Information gathering if attention is elsewhere. This leads to missing key points.
Too much data. Deep processing so selecting only some points. I literally can't read/see a mass of data (hence chunking helps).
Poor working memory. This leads to a loss of information. It went in, then out, then I guess what I remember.
We don't often know we've missed something.
So, some general ideas (everyone is different).
My Brain scrambles and panics faced with a 1000-word blob of words. Paralysis stops me from processing the 1000 words.
My Brain can easily read 1000 words if it is chunked into approx 20 lots of 50-word chunks (as an example). I can review and find/check when there are these smaller chunks. Weird but true.
A row of capital letters startles my Brain. I read capital letters by letter rather than the word. That's tiring. I'm not Dyslexic. It is even harder for Dyslexics. Never capitalise.
I'm an emotive-led person. A conversation with a human about the subject means my brain is awake if the subject is 'alive'. Unless the person is boring then scrap that. Humour keeps me alert. Not too funny though. Chunk verbal instructions too. This is a version of Body Doubling.
Simple order. Tell us what to do in order, not what not to do. Telling us what not to do is daft. That's double hard work as I have to understand the 'not' and then translate it to 'do'. Start with step 1.
A mix of formats is best. Written. Spoken. Emotive response. All of them. Twice. Everyone has their fave mix.
Give us different mediums. On line. Piece of paper. Whiteboard. A choice is best.
Give us the possibility to 'revisit' the instruction if needed. Paper will be lost. The instructions on how to access stuff online might be forgotten.
Give a link. Make it easier. Offer space to be asked.
Know what action points you've given. Refresh those points at the end. Remind us to write down reminders. Tell us to ask each other and remind each other.
Tell us why we are doing it, the purpose or outcome. I can't move on to doing it if I don't see the point of it.
All just ideas.
Am happy to always learn more ways/tricks.
